Skipping Stones Design Sketch Tuesday: SSD028 Gratitude and “Folk Art”
Another day, another dollar (at least for me at work today) and another Skipping Stones Design Sketch Tuesday with another awesome sketch from Teri Anderson.
Here’s today’s sketch:
When I saw this sketch I had a gatrillion ideas flying round my little ol’ brain but had to lasso one and reign it in. I originally wanted to rotate it on it’s side, but it ended up not working out… will have to try again later.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE folk art and folk artsy design and tchatchki’s (sp??) When I lived in Germany, I collected a lot of Polish and German collectibles and fell in love with European folk art and have incorporated some folk art items into my home decor, but that’s a post for another time… So I decided that I wanted to go folksy and make a card with a folk art feel to it….
Basic Grey’s Urban Prairie just SCREAMS Folk Art to me. I cut out a flower and then messed around with some papers and flowers and designs and ultimately ended up with this finished piece.
I stamped the sentiment with SSD’s Healing Wings stamp set and then layered up several pieces of BG paper . I also stitched the edges with Bernie the Bernina, added some bling and Faux Tole Painted the flower. I ink distressed all the edges of the papers with Tim Holz’s Tea Dye inks. Love that stuff!!! Just pounce a sponge into the stamp pad and attack your papers and, voila!, you have old and worn! The flower was cut on my new toy from Kraft cardstock which I promptly inked up with CTMH Tulip ink using a sponge. I needed to match the darkest pinkyburgundy color in the background paper and I think it matches just perfectly!
Everything is popped up on this card with foam tape or Helmar glue. I used Helmar’s liquid Pop Dots stuff to pop the flower up off the frame. I love the Helmar glue… it’s so much nicer than using pop dots for small, intricate pieces… you just plop the glue on, and gently place the layer down… don’t press it, just let it dry for about 10-15 mins. I picked up my Helmar Pop Dots at Erin Gudge’s Treasured Scrapbooking online store.
Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a mahvelous day!
